  1. Today's Buzz: Should U.S. arm Syrian rebels?

Last week the Obama administration announced that it would begin arming rebels in Syria’s civil war, two years after the conflict began. The decision came as the White House said it had conclusive evidence that Syria had used chemical weapons against its own people. President Obama had warned that chemical weapons use would be a “red line.” The White House said the U.S. would send small arms, ammunition and anti-tank weapons to the rebels, and coordinate its efforts with allies. Do you support the White House decision to get involved? Do you think U.S. help will make a difference? Do you worry about U.S. weapons going to al-Qaida affiliates in Syria? Talk about it!

  3. Can the Obama administration be trusted?

    — Thirty-five years ago in United States v. Choate, the courts ruled that the U.S. Postal Service may record "mail cover," i.e., what's written on the outside of an envelope — the addresses of sender and receiver. The National Security...

  5. Too much secrecy threatens our security

After I downgraded the scandal value of the National Security Agency's massive gathering of our phone records and email data, a curious reader raised a thoughtful question: Would I "have the same tone if this story broke while (George W.) Bush was prez?"...

  11. Jeffrey Goldberg: Obama's plan to arm Syrian rebels falls short

Here are five observations, most of them depressing, about the Syrian civil war, formulated in light of the announcement by the White House that President Bashar al-Assad's regime has, in fact, used chemical weapons and that, in response, the U.S. will...

  13. 6/15

Electing Republicans to run the government, which they do not believe in, is like electing atheists to run a religion. It is nonsense for us to become embroiled in Syria in support of the so-called rebels, who are affiliated with al-Qaida, the sworn...

  15. Allentown's Syrian community mostly against U.S. intervention

Two years of civil war have torn Syria apart, pitting neighbor against neighbor in sectarian strife that has decimated the country and killed tens of thousands of innocents.

  19. A journalist abroad, charting America's clandestine 'Dirty Wars' ★★★

Richard Rowley's documentary "Dirty Wars" is a sobering account of acclaimed journalist Jeremy Scahill's reporting on the war on terror in the Middle East and Africa, and the effect its clandestine operations have had not just on those shaken by its violence but also on Scahill himself. He's the increasingly weary, die-hard truth-seeker covering a military/political apparatus built on shielding those truths from the American public.

  21. Islamist terrorists still aspire to kill you

Very smart libertarians often make an argument against muscular counterterrorism efforts (I prefer this term over "war on terror," because "war on terror" reminds me of Donald Rumsfeld). It goes like this: Why do we obsess over terrorism when a) guns, b)...
