    According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), between 6-8 million cats and dogs entered shelters in 2009, of which 3-4 million were adopted. The Lincoln County Animal Shelter has seen its fair share of homeless dogs and cats.  This year the shelter has taken in 538 animals. So far.  Last year, 1350 animals ended up at the shelter and it would be no surprise to see the current number rise.
