It was a busy offseason for Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. He got married to his longtime girlfriend, and also had surgery on a shoulder that bothered him throughout last season. There's a lot to be excited about in spring training as he enters his 8th full season in the big leagues.
A bum shoulder limited Zimmerman to 145 games and hurt his production over the first half of the season. Surgery in October has him refreshed and rejuvenated as he tries to avoid the disabled list and help the Nationals to another National League East crown.
"That's obviously the goal and things are coming along right on schedule," Zimmerman said. "We've got plenty of time left down here so everything should be fine by April first."
Zimmerman has thrived in the majors since leaving the University of Virginia, but the Cavaliers program still has a special place in his heart. Almost immediately after signing a five-year, $45 million deal with the Nats more than a year ago, Zimmerman made a sizeable $250,000 donation back to Virginia Baseball, which was designated towards the Davenport Field expansion project.
