CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) — A man exonerated five years ago by DNA evidence in a rape case after serving several years in an Illinois prison has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a woman's 2008 beating death.
The Times of Munster and the Post-Tribune of Merrillville report that 54-year-old Marlon Pendleton was sentenced Friday in the death of his 45-year-old girlfiend, Dannette Adkins.
Pendleton made headlines in 2006 when DNA evidence cleared him of a 1992 rape conviction. He had served eight years of a 10-year prison sentence. Pendleton was later pardoned by then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
