The Clark County Activity Coalition met on Monday, Jan. 28.
Co-Chair Gina Lang, with Ertel Medicine and Pediatrics, called the meeting to order and opened discussion regarding the 2013 Winchester Weigh Down (WWD) Competition.
WWD is an eight-week weight loss competition. Participants weigh in every week, and there are educational and ¿tness opportunities. The current sites for weigh in locations are the YMCA, Clark County Cooperative Extension, Ertel Medicine and Pediatrics, Clark County Health Department, Winchester Chiropractic, Winchester Family Practice, College Park, and Clark Regional Medical Plaza, with more to be added if needed. It was decided that the 2013 WWD will begin on March 13 and go through May 15. The winners will be announced on the weekend of May 17. The Clark County Health Department, ¿scal agent for Coalition, will issue invoices for sponsors, and sponsors are still needed. Laura Sheehan, with Full Circle Market, will update the Winchester Weigh Down website, and include a contact email on the site. Anyone with questions, or those that would like to sponsor, may submit comments through the email address. Sign-ups for 2013 WWD can be done at any weigh-in location on March 13 or March 20. Sign-ups will continue after the March 20, but anyone registering after that date will not be eligible for prizes. The cost is $10 per person, and there will be male and female divisions.
Tiffani Stafford and Tina Muller, with Clark Regional Medical Center announced the new “We Are Wellness” platform and healthy dining menu. The healthy menu will be used for all patients and in the cafeteria, which is open for public dining. The menu will feature icons indicating if the menu item is Fit (moderate in calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium), Controlled Sodium (less than 400 mg), Vegetarian, and Super Food (provides health benefits beyond basic nutrients).
The Clark Regional Medical Center hosted a blood drive Feb. 5 in the Holland and Meyer Conference Room.
Jennifer Ebert, with the American Heart Association, passed out a press release on the “Go Red for Women” campaign for Heart Month, and con¿rmed the The American Heart Walk for Clark County is April 27, and the walk will take place at the Clark Regional Medical Center, with registration beginning at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Clare Sipple, with Lower Howard’s Creek, passed out the 2013 Winter Hike Schedule at Lower Howard’s Creek. Minutes were taken by Cara O’Neill and Beth Willett, with the Clark County Health Department. Other members in attendance were Bo Young with ChiroOne Wellness Centers, Alice Tucker with Alice and Her Girls, Rachel Grigsby with Drayer Physical Therapy, Amina Shalash from Winchester Family Practice, Ann Stenzel with the YMCA, and Jeff Lewis with Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation.
The next meeting will be Monday, Feb. 18, 12:30 p.m., at the College Park Gym. Discussion will continue regarding the 2013 Winchester Weigh Down. Anyone interested in sponsoring or learning more about the Weigh Down is encouraged to come to this meeting.
