Dr. and Mrs. Stephen S. Taylor were united in marriage at the Pennsboro Church of Christ in Pennsboro, W.Va., on June 17, 1961, with Mr. Max King officiating. They will celebrate 50 years of marriage at a dinner party at the Greenbrier Resort hosted by their son, Stephen St. Clair Taylor Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.
Among the guests are the original wedding party, as well as family and friends.
Additionally, she earned a master’s degree in home economics and a degree in educational science at Morehead State University. Her areas of emphasis included administration, as well as clothing and textiles. She completed a minor doctoral studies program in child development at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. Mrs. Taylor received the Outstanding Professional Award from the Kentucky Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1998. She retired from Morehead State University as Associate Professor Emeritus of Human Sciences.
Dr. Taylor is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rexel S. Taylor of Walton, W.Va. He is a 1956 graduate of Dundee High School, Dundee, Mich., and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Glenville State College. He completed his Master of Arts degree at Stetson University, Deland, Fla., in counseling and psychology. Dr. Taylor earned a Ph.D. in educational management systems from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Fla. His post-doctorate degree from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, emphasized college and university management.
Dr. Taylor was selected as the Glenville State College Alumnus of the Year in 1990 and is a life member of American MENSA. He retired as professor emeritus and served in a number of administrative positions, including vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Morehead State University.
Dr. and Mrs. Taylor currently live in Winchester and are active in community services and Fairfax Church of Christ. The Taylors will culminate their celebration with a cruise from Anchorage, Alaska, to Vancouver, Canada.
