How have you spent your week? If someone asked me this question I would have to tell them it was either looking for a Kleenex in every room in the house or once I got the Kleenex, I was blowing my nose. That pretty well summed my week up.
I hate sinus infections. There. I have declared it to the world. This past week I have been burdened by the worst sinus infection I have ever had. I am sure part of it is due to the fact that my immune system is very weak from the chemo treatments I have had.
Last Sunday, I knew I was probably coming down with something, but I couldn’t quite figure out what since I just felt really blah for no good reason. I ended up not getting out of my pajamas the whole day. I watched church on television and went to bed early. By Monday morning I had a headache and a drippy nose that would not quit.
Those symptoms continued for two days. By Wednesday evening I felt like a Mack truck had struck me. My ears ached, my throat ached, my bones ached, my head ached. Even my gums ached. I had the total effect of a sinus infection. For those who suffer from sinus infections, you know how miserable they are.
A good clue as to how sick I was showed when I turned the Kentucky Wildcats off at halftime and they were playing a good game. Now, I am as great a Kentucky fan as any good Kentucky fan but the sinus infection won out.
Another clue was the fact that I didn’t try to find out if “Survivor” was playing on another station. Survivor is my favorite show and I have watched every season it has been on. I get very involved with the teams on the show. That night I couldn’t have cared less if I missed the show or not.
Another good clue I was really sick was the fact that nothing sounded good to eat or tasted good. People who know me now realize and are saying, “Yeah, she was really sick.”
I have recently heard your body is made up of a gross amount of mucus. If I remember correctly it is 60 percent or greater. This past week I think I had my amount and that of two other people in my body. I went through two boxes of Kleenex in one day. Luckily for me, I am one of those people who hoard Kleenex every year in preparation of my next sinus infection.
This sinus infection resulted in my having the sorest throat I have ever experienced for three to four days. Not even when I had my tonsils taken out in the second grade did my throat hurt this badly. I promise you, if you have ever had your tonsils taken out, you will always remember the pain. Talking was even painful and one day it was not a possibility.
It wasn’t worth the effort and besides my husband couldn’t understand me or make out what I was trying to say even with both hands flailing trying to make him understand. Like I said, it wasn’t worth the effort.
Now, usually when I have had the laryngitis part in the past, within two or three days it will all be over and I have been known to sound worse than I felt on some occasions. This was one time I actually felt worse than I sounded and that was pretty scary.
I had to listen to my two birth daughters bawling me out because I should know better than to let myself get to the shape I was in, because by now I should know what a sinus infection will do to me. Even though I knew they were right, I cut the conversations short on both calls. I have to admit once my symptoms begin I really do know I should get to the doctor. I guess I am so much like others who keep thinking or hoping that maybe I will feel better tomorrow.
However, after this episode, I am not going to take a chance like this again. I have learned that nothing helps a sinus infection without an antibiotic.
I also have learned that a sinus infection is pretty controlling. I think I learned my lesson this time and I will not let it get the better of me the next time.
One thing I do know is the fact that I hate a sinus infection. I tried all week to find some good from a sinus infection and all I could come up with was I did get caught up with some paperwork and this article got written a little earlier than normal.
Hope you sinus sufferers are having a better week this week.
Wonder how March will come in? Like a lion or a lamb?
