Kentucky plants and folk lore will be in the spotlight at the April 12 Second Thursday program at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum, 217 S. Maple St.
Debbie Barnes, an Estill County native who has lived here for 37 years, will be the speaker.
She has a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and an associate degree in greenhouse growing and landscape design from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond. The owner of Louis Flower Power on Harrodsburg Road for 11 years and Louis Flower Power on Nicholasville Road for three years, she and her husband, Joe, have two children.
Mrs. Barnes served as a board member of the Kentucky Nursery and Landscape Association and was its legislative chair for six years. She also is a member of the American Nursery and Landscape Association.
She and her husband recently built a greenhouse on their farm on Sidwell Lane and operate Barnes Family Greenhouse on the Irvine Road.
The speaker is a member of the Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Red River Historical Society.
Bill Ellis will discuss Kentucky as a Crossroads of Humor at the May 12 Second Thursday program.
All programs are held at the museum and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
