'Star-studded' cast set for Dancer's Pointe's annual spring recital

Dancer’s Pointe owner/operator Danielle Bridgewater expects to see plenty of celebrities at her studio’s annual spring recital this weekend.

From Ryan Seacrest toLady Gaga, the theme, “Lights! Camera! Action!”, means dancers will have the opportunity to portray celebrities from TV, music and the movies.

“A lot of celebrities will be there, young and old,” Bridgewater said. “We have several different movies that we’re doing dances to. At the end, the stars will be leaving, and some will be interviewed live.”

Dancers will begin the show on a red carpet, and audience members will pass the Hollywood Walk of Fame as they enter the auditorium. The idea, Bridgewater said, is to create the atmosphere of a movie premier.

After the show, audience members will have the opportunity to get autographs from the “celebrities.”

“They are having a ball, especially getting to dress up as different characters,” Bridgewater said of the dancers’ preparations.

With 100 dancers performing jazz, ballet, lyrical and pointe routines, there will be plenty of variety.

Although the focus will be on movies from the last five years, including “Harry Potter,” “The Muppets” and “The Hunger Games,” Bridgewater said to expect some older celebrities as well, like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis.

“Most of the movies are recognizable,” Bridgewater said.

The show will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at George Rogers Clark High School. Cost is $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 3-12, and free for children under 3.

Two of the recital dances will be performed Saturday at noon during the Beer Cheese Festival. The performance is free and open to the public.

“Recital is a fun time. They’ve worked so hard all year, now it’s their time to shine on stage,” Bridgewater said.
