Journalism award winners

Three senior members of the George Rogers Clark High School Smoke Signals newspaper staff won awards during the Kentucky High School Journalism Association competition.

Students from more than 40 high schools participated in the competition.

Sarah Sams earned first place in the two-page layout category, while Ashley Becknell garnered both second and third place in the feature writing category. Kayla Harrison captured a third place in the advertising category.

The yearbook and newspaper staffs are under the direction of Shanda Crosby.

A comment by one of the judges on Becknell’s award stated, “GRC made this competition difficult. Everyone’s leads were so good. All of the writing was tight and your topics were interesting. Someone is doing something right there."

Both the yearbook and newspaper staffs are under the direction of Shanda Crosby.
