BETTY JANE SHANNON ECTON

Betty Jane Shannon Ecton, widow of Walter Guerrant Ecton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

She was born Feb. 14, 1929, to the late James and Virginia Hisle Shannon in Lebanon, Tenn.
Betty Jane moved to Winchester after her marriage to Walter and became very active in the community. She taught kindergarteners at First Presbyterian Church for several years. She then obtained her real estate broker’s license and opened Betty Jane Ecton Real Estate, a business she ran successfully as one of the first female brokers in Winchester.

For many years, Betty Jane was an active member of the Fine Arts Club, Fortnightly Club, Sewing Club, the Winchester Country Club, the Clark County Chamber of Commerce, the Winchester/Clark County Board of Realtors and First Presbyterian Church.
Upon retirement, Betty Jane and Walter enjoyed spending the winter months at their residence in    Naples, Fla.

Survivors include her son, Walter Guerrant Ecton Jr. (Kathy); two daughters, Shannon Saunier (Ed), Mary Jane Rush (Ray); and six grandchildren, Wyn Saunier, Mary Jane Saunier, Walt Ecton III, John Shannon Saunier, Elizabeth Rush and Ginny Rush; and her brother, James Jackson Shannon Jr.
Pallbearers will be Walt Ecton III, Ray Rush, Ed Saunier, John Shannon Saunier, Wyn Saunier and Rusty Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fine Arts and Fortnightly Clubs.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery.
