Catherine Heika Springstead, of Barnegat, N.J. passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.
Mrs. Springstead was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Manahawkin in 1960. She was a very proud pharmacy technician for 33 years before retiring to enjoy life with her husband and soulmate, Lewis. She spent a great deal of time on the beaches of Long Beach Island, enjoyed going to Atlantic City, and would be seen most mornings with friends at a local bagel store. But her true love was her family, which to her was more important than life itself. Mrs. Springstead was always ready, willing and able to help anyone in need and was a wonderful wife, mother, Nanny and friend!
In addition to her husband of 26 years, Mrs. Springstead is survived by her children, daughter, Debby Ficke (Chris); son, Ken Rank (Tiffany); and son, Mike Rank (Nicole); and her five grandchildren, the “lights of her life,” Christopher, Erik and Nicole Ficke of New Jersey, and Abigail and Benjamin Rank of Winchester. She also leaves behind sisters, Barbara Esposito and Mary Acampora; brothers, William Heika, Walter Thompson and Charles Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Catherine and Stanley Heika, and three brothers, John, “Butch” and Patrick, predeceased Mrs. Springstead.
Visitation was from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, followed immediately by a memorial/life celebration from 6 to 7 p.m. at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fisherman’s Memorial Story Fund, P.O. Box 388, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006.
