JUANITA JEAN HEFLIN HAGGARD
Juanita Jean Heflin Haggard, 81, of Waco, Ky., wife of Bobby Joe Haggard, passed away on Thursday, June 21.
She was born May 25, 1931, to the late Count Pulaski Heflin and Elva Rena Gravett Heflin.
She was a 1949 graduate of Clark County High School and attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester from 1949 until 1951, where she excelled in theater and participated in choir and other clubs and organizations.
Juanita was primarily a homemaker; she also worked in the office at Clark RECC and was later employed over the years as caregiver to several children and adults.
Juanita was a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother. She was a devout Christian and long-time member of Allansville Baptist Church, Winchester. She was also a member of the Highlands Emmaus Community.
She loved music, particularly that of the Gaithers, and she composed some original hymns that she collectively called “Songs for Him,” including “I Thought I Heard Them Singing.” She loved the arts, especially drawing and painting, as well as crafts, flower arranging, reading and cooking.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Propst, of Bristol, Va.; her son, Neil Douglas (Melissa Cooper) Haggard; her grandson, the light of her life, Liam Turner Haggard, age 10 months, all of Waco, Ky.; nephew, Paul Alan (Sherry Goodlett) Heflin of Lexington; great-nieces, Laurie Heflin Collins and Kim Heflin Keck, and their families; several beloved cousins; a sister-in-law, Sallie Haggard of Winchester and her family; a brother-in-law, Charles Harman, of Ludlow; and special friends, including her Clark County High School classmates, particularly her dear relative, Elsie Isaacs Curry, and “the girls.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Carl G. Heflin; and her brother Vola Gayle (Sallie Adams) Heflin; her stepdaughter, Donna Marie Haggard Rugh; and a brother-in-law, Melvin “Buck” Haggard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, June 25, at Scobee Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Alan Heflin, Carl E. Gravett, David Haggard, Fred Burchett, Gerald Wills and Logan Profit.
Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Smith, Kenneth Preston Hogg, Dewayne Mathis, deacons and Youth A Sunday School class (1982-1983) of Allansville Baptist Church and Dr. Andrew Hamon.
Family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, and public visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Scobee Funeral Home.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the physicians and staff of Hospice Care Plus in Richmond, Central Baptist Home Health, and all of her caring and supportive family and friends whose calls, cards and visits have buoyed her spirits during a long period of illness.
