Bessie Marie Oaks Gross, 83, of Winchester, widow of the late Edgar Gross, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Gross was born in Breathitt County on June 21, 1928, to the late Jesse and Julia Brewer Oaks. She was a former employee of Rockwell International, a Walmart cashier for 22 years, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Ruckerville Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, James Anthony Haddix (Lisa) and Edward Dean Gross (Pam) of Winchester; three daughters, Dove Arbutis Guffey (Bennie) of Ala., Julia Marie Oakley (Henry) of Winchester, and Penny Denise Wood (Greg) of Winchester; four stepchildren, Alvie Gross (Maxine) of Jackson, Ky., Robert Gross of London, Ky., Mildred Miller (Kenny) of Ohio, and Herman Gross (Sue) of Ind.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters and her stepson, J.B. Gross (Lois).
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the Ark of Mercy Church of God by the Rev. Delmer Gross. Burial will be in the Clarmont Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chris Newman, Jesse Newman, Brian Haddix, Gregory Wood, Josh Wood, Hunter Osborne, Vance Belcher and Chris Clem.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 29, at Scobee Funeral Home.
