Two members of the Winchester Altrusa Club, Nancy Chamberlain and Mavis Shearer, attended the Altrusa International Convention July 24-27 at Palm Desert, Calif. The convention theme was “Unite Through Service” and the local women were among delegates from 17 countries. The Winchester Altrusa Club belongs to District 6, the largest of Altrusa’s 13 districts, with 2,608 members and 62 clubs.
During a brief business meeting Thursday, the Winchester Municipal Utilities Commission agreed to ask the state to increase its contribution toward the costs of relocating a waterline at Colby and McClure roads.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the annual Admiral’s Day festivities Sunday, according to spokesman Gary Garrison. Admiral’s Day, held each Labor Day weekend at Fort Boonesborough State Park beach, features a boat parade on the river and a beauty pageant on the beach.
