Clark County hotel robbery case waived to grand jury

The man accused of robbing two Winchester hotels sent his case straight to the grand jury Wednesday morning.

Jesse Burgess, 20, of 2959 Thompson Station Road, is facing two counts of first-degree robbery after he allegedly robbed the Quality Inn and Hampton Inn on consecutive nights in July.
Burgess was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning in Clark District Court.

According to Winchester Police, surveillance video in both hotel lobbies recorded a man enter the hotel lobbies between 1 and 2 a.m. on July 13 and 14. The suspect’s face was covered and appeared to have a handgun. On July 13, the man entered the Quality Inn. The clerk had stepped away from the desk, so the suspect reached over the counter, took cash and left on foot.

The following morning, the suspect walked into the Hampton Inn lobby, pulled a handgun and demanded money froom the clerk. The clerk complied, and the suspect left on foot again.

A couple days later, police received information that implicated Burgess in the robberies. During an interview with police, he reportedly confessed to both robberies.

Burgess remains in the Clark County Detention Center.
