Clark County woman who shot husband indicted

A Clark County woman was indicted for first-degree assault Thursday, charged with shooting her husband.
Bonita Bennett, 53, was arrested Jan. 19 after Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to her home at 2858 Ford Hampton Road.

According to a report filed at the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the residence around 8 p.m. When they arrived, John Bennett said his wife shot him. The couple had been drinking since 11 a.m. that day and had argued prior to the shooting.

John Bennett had been shot once in the armpit with a .25-caliber handgun. He also had a large cut to one arm. The injuries were not life threatening.

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said at the time that his deputies have responded to numerous domestic disputes at the Bennett household before the shooting.

The Clark County grand jury also returned the following indictments:

— Terry Lee Tipton, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, prescription controlled substance not in proper container.

— William A. Griggs, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

— Ward Simmons, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana less than eight ounces (two counts).

— Daryl W. Wiseman, flagrant non-support.

— Andre Durgan, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (two counts).

— Brandon S. Adams, flagrant non-support.

— Miran D. Romick, flagrant non-support (two counts).

— Kevin J. LaBona, possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

— Lucy Kirk and Kameron Blake, receiving stolen property over $10,000 (Kirk), complicity to commit receiving stolen property (two counts, Blake).
