Bluegrass Community and Technical College Glitz Committee members are hard at work getting ready for the Run for the Glitz, the school’s annual fundraising effort.

This year’s event, the sixth, will be 7 p.m. on Friday, April 20, at Tierney Storage, located at 4475 Rockwell Road.

Formerly known as Puttin’ on the Glitz, the annual event is the largest fundraiser for the local BCTC campus. Last year more than 400 people attended the black tie gathering, and more than $50,000 was raised for the school.

This year’s event will once again have a horse racing theme, and organizer JoEllen Reed said it should be even bigger and better than last year.

“Last year was our most successful Glitz and we have an exciting lineup this year,” Reed said. “We have Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron and his students from the North American Racing Academy coming back this year and he’s invited jockeys Pat Day and Steve Cauthen and others to come also. They will have a stick horse race, then the horses will be autographed and auctioned off. And RS Guitarworks is sponsoring the band Positive Movement to provide music for the dancing until midnight, so it should be another fun night.”

Other features of the event include a derby-themed buffet meal prepared by Thompson Catering, and silent and live auctions featuring auctioneer Woodrow Wilson. The George Rogers Clark High School cheerleaders will once again lead patrons to their seats, and Andy Adams will play the call to the post. Valet parking will be available.

The cost of the event is $50 per person or $400 per table.

There are also three sponsorship levels for businesses and organizations wishing to participate in the event.

Triple Crown-level sponsorship is $2,500, and includes a table for eight with priority seating, a full-page advertisement in the program, a banner display, and specially-decorated table and media recognition.

Kentucky Derby sponsorship is $1,250 and includes a table for eight with prefered seating, a half-page advertisement in the program and media recognition.

Belmont-Preakness sponsorship is $500 and includes four tickets to the Glitz, the sponsor’s name in the program and media recognition.

Money raised from this year’s Glitz will go toward building a 600-seat amphitheater amidst the walking trail at BCTC, Reed said.
