Reed right for Clark County

Dear editor,
At the outset, I need to confess my impartiality — I believe JoEllen Reed is as fine a public servant as I’ve ever known. With that said, I wholeheartedly endorse JoEllen Reed for state representative.

Her whole life has been about serving the community. From educating kids as a grade school teacher to fighting for good government on the Winchester Board of Commissioners and Clark County Fiscal Court to leading the effort to build the community and technical college that Clark County deserves, JoEllen Reed has always been there when Clark County needed leadership.

On Election Day, I hope you’ll be there for her. You’ve done it before. When she ran for the Winchester Board of Commissioners, your votes made JoEllen the vice-mayor. When she offered herself for the new fiscal court, you made her the top vote-getter.

I’d say that makes the voters of Winchester and Clark County excellent judges of character.

I hope you’ll send her to Frankfort to be precisely the kind of State Representative Clark County deserves and Kentucky so desperately needs.

More magistrates means more taxes

Dear editor,

Please vote no on the six magistrate question on the upcoming ballot unless you want to pay higher taxes. It doesn’t matter whether you have three commissioners or 30 magistrates, you are never contacted about important issues before they vote.

Ask yourself this question: Has an elected official ever contacted you about anything? Three additional magistrates will cost the taxpayers an additional $354,000 every four years.

Chandler at it again

Dear editor,

There Ben Chandler goes again. At a time when senior citizens are struggling with higher electrical rates, health care and food costs and higher gas prices, Chandler resorts to scaring little old ladies over Social Security and Medicare. When retirees are watching their retirement principals dwindle, Chandler resorts to demonizing his opponent. It’s ugly, shameful, disgraceful and sickening.

Now Chandler incarnates or presents himself as a conservative. Well Ben, I personally know a conservative and you sir, are no conservative. The “D” beside Chandler’s name was a good thing 30 years ago when liberals would work with conservatives for the betterment of America.

That’s not been the desire of liberals for the past dozen years. Liberals have jumped the fence in left field the last four years and have the “guilt by association” syndrome that promotes the Obama administration policy of socialism and communism. Those “isms” do not work in the ideals, principals and interests of Americans.

Chandler lacks conservative Kentucky values resulting in lies and distortions of his opponent and scare tactics upon the elderly. Chandler came to office with a silver spoon in his mouth and he’ll still have that silver spoon when he’s out of office.

The sixth district is in dire need of a statesman who will protect Kentucky values and jobs. A statesman who will be a good steward of our tax dollars and who will work to conserve American ideals, principals and interests.

That’s why I’m voting for Andy Barr to be our congressman in Washington. We can not afford four more years of hopeless spending and devastating joblessness. Billions of taxpayer dollars lost to government waste and fraud and with the expansion of Welfare now in excess of $1 trillion, isn’t that enough redistribution?

On. Nov. 6, cast your votes for Andy Barr to represent Kentucky’s 6th District and vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for our future, the future of our kids and grandkids and for the future of America.

Stand Up Clark County supports change on school board

Dear editor,
I’m writing to inform the community about Stand Up Clark County. Stand Up Clark County is a permanent community organization registered with the IRS.

We are advocates of educational accountability. Our mission is to celebrate the successes of our schools and expose the weaknesses. We are patiently thorough, diligent, community-minded and honest.
Through Kentucky’s Open Records Law we obtained thousands of pages of documents revealing the inner workings of the board of education.

After reviewing those documents, we reached the conclusion that our students, employees and citizens needed someone to advocate their needs.

So, we adopted the name Stand Up Clark County and began publicizing the reality of what is taking place within our schools. We seek to balance the running of our schools through community and board involvement.

Stand Up Clark County is supporting Steve Graves, Michael McGowan and Ashley Ritchie for the school board because we know they are the best choices for our students and school employees.
We seek a board willing to allow community interaction at board meetings and be open to new ideas to move us forward.

For example, we advocate giving Clark County teachers first opportunity for employment and promotions. We believe these candidates will do that and bring a diversity of opinions and experiences to the board we’ve never had.

Many of the same ideas these three candidates have align with those of billionaire Bill Gates. For example, Gates invested $100 million in the building of small schools because he found that smaller schools “promote less acting up in the classroom, better attendance and closer interaction with adults.”

We may not have Bill Gates running for school board, but we do have three candidates willing to undertake the massive responsibility of turning our schools around.

We may now be standing in the looming darkness of recent plummeting test scores but Ashley Ritchie, Michael McGowan and Steve Graves will light our way with strength, integrity, communication and relentless hope.

Clark Regional a local treasure

Dear editor,

We have a new addition in Winchester that helps make this a great community! Clark Regional Medical Center is a beautiful, new, state-of-the art building. But what makes this an excellent facility is the dedicated and diligent staff within. From the skilled surgeons, the nurturing nursing staff, the food service staff, the admitting staff and housekeeping staff — superior!

We utilized the new hospital on two occasions in October. Both visits started at the ER. From the moment we walked into the ER we were treated with compassion, courtesy and efficiency. On both occasions, the admitting clerks went above and beyond their call of duty to make sure we received prompt and thorough care. Glenda Jones and Diane Bailey are exemplary employees and should be commended.

Each PA, nurse, nurse’s assistant, CT¿and X-ray tech treated us with concern and compassion. We cannot begin to name each one. That was most impressive, too. Each one of these skilled professionals treated us like family, showing so much care and genuine kindness.

One of the ER visits required emergency surgery. Dr. Steven Noe was the surgeon on call. The moment that surgeon stepped into the room, all fear and uncertainty subsided. Dr. Noe is a true professional with a genuine concern for his patient’s well-being. He explained the procedure thoroughly and, even though the patient was his main concern, Dr. Noe reassured family members present and made sure they were well-informed and comfortable. His post-op visit was thorough and efficient with a tremendous dose of kindness included. His kindness and expertise at the follow-up appointment in his office did not disappoint. Dr. Noe is a true asset to the Clark Regional Medical Center and Winchester.

A building is just a building. The staff inside that building makes it successful.
