Palmer speaking to Democrats Feb. 25

The Clark County Democratic Executive Committee will host an open meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at the Clark County Public Library. Senator R.J. Palmer will speak and make a special presentation. All Democrats are invited to attend.
 
AARP offers free tax preparation

Tax preparation, counseling and electronic filing are available from AARP¿volunteers from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays through April 1 at the Central Baptist Church Annex, 101 W. Lexington Ave.
This service is free and offered to all taxpayers for personal returns. There is no age or income limitation and you do not have to be a member of AARP.
People should bring last year’s tax return as well as all documents showing income for 2012. Proof of taxes paid and contributions made are required for those itemizing deductions.

Smoke detector give-away rescheduled

The Winchester Fire-EMS and Clark County Fire Department have rescheduled their smoke detector give-away to 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Station No. 1 at 44 N. Maple St. No more than two detectors per residence.
, homeowners and rental occupants only and proof of residency in Clark county with driver’s license or other documentation is required.

GRC SBDM meeting Thursday

The George Rogers Clark High School School-based Decision-making Council will meet at 4 p.m. Feb. 7 in the library of the new high school building.

Higgins headlines museum program

The February program at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum will feature Chad Higgins Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Higgins will talk about his gospel singing group, “In Spirit and In Truth.” The group has been nominated for six 2013 Rhythm of Gospel awards. All programs take place at the museum, 217 S. Main St. in Winchester, and are free to the public.
Refreshments will be available. The museum has a handicapped accessible. Call 745-1358 for more information.
