Missing elderly woman found safe in Winchester

An elderly woman is back home safe and sound after she was missing for more than five hours this morning.

The Winchester Police Department received a call around midnight concerning a woman who had gone missing on French Avenue.

She was discovered around 5:30 a.m. walking on French Avenue, returning to her residence.

“She told the people that found her she had been in an empty house nearby,” Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said.

Hall said there are a number of empty houses on French Avenue the woman could have been in.

The Clark County Fire Department was called to join the search around 2:30 a.m. Hall said there were more than 50 people involved in the search, which also included a pair of police dog teams.
