The Winchester woman accused of killing her daughter and granddaughter over a custody issue pleaded not guilty in Clark Circuit Court Thursday.
Lillie Stanton, 48, of 233 Vaught Road, was indicted for two counts of murder last month for allegedly stabbing 23-year-old Danel Korrey Stanton and 22-month-old Kaydence Ray Miers to death in their home on May 20.
Stanton said nothing Thursday afternoon as Judge William Clouse set a Dec. 13 pre-trial conference.
In court documents, Lillie Stanton admitted to police that she cut the throats of both Danel Korrey Stanton and Kaydence Ray Miers while they slept in the home that Sunday afternoon. She said she was concerned about a final custody hearing later that week in Clark Family Court and was afraid the child’s father would receive more visitation time. She told detectives she wanted to take them out of state, but didn’t have the money and decided to kill them instead.
Lillie Stanton tried to harm herself before police arrived, and spent a couple days in a Lexington hospital before being taken to the Clark County Detention Center where she remains incarcerated.
