The Clark County Board of Education would like you to name its two newest schools.
Students at Conkwright Middle and Clark Middle schools will combine in the old George Rogers Clark High School building. A new elementary school will also open its doors next fall.
A committee collected suggestions and selected three potential names. Those were presented to the board which opted not to make a final selection, but rather leave it again in the hands of the community.
The names were picked based on criteria that included a geographic area of Winchester and Clark County, a name of a prominent local person or a prominent national figure.
The community can offer its input by visiting the school system’s website and voting by Feb. 8.
For the new elementary school, Daniel Boone Elementary, Homer C. Ledford Elementary and Veterans Memorial Elementary and a write-in option are the choices. Clark County Middle School, Daniel¿Boone Middle School and Homer C. Ledford Middle School are the possible options for the combined middle school. Voters can write in an option for that school, as well.
The poll can be found at www2.clarkschools.net/home/index.php/en/district/school-transition-info/school-naming-committee.
