An accident on Boonesboro Road around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday killed a Winchester man who may have been suffering from dementia, according to Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr.
James Patrick, 77, of Winchester pulled his pickup truck from Old Boonesboro Road on to Boonesboro Road where it was struck by a tractor-trailer.
Perdue said Patrick pulled out in front of the tractor-trailer.
Patrick’s daughter had called the Winchester Police Department earlier, Perdue said.
“My understanding is ... dispatch got a call from his daughter that he got the keys, and he suffered from dementia and city police were looking for him when this accident happened,” Perdue said
According to Winchester Police records, dispatch was called at 10:43, after the family had searched for about an hour.
“Looks like we got the call about the time of the accident,” Winchester Police Capt. Harvey Craycraft said. “We had not been out looking for him is my understanding. The family had been trying to locate him prior to that.”
“It’s a sad situation with any wreck. You hate to see anyone lose their life in a wreck, especially when they suffer from a disease like that,” Perdue said.
