A Winchester man is facing multiple charges after his pickup truck crashed into a home on Holly Avenue Friday night.

Winchester Police officers were called to 20 Holly Ave. shortly after 8 p.m. Friday when a Ford pickup truck struck the front porch of the home of Tamatha Deaton. The vehicle also pulled some electrical wires loose, according to the accident report.

Witnesses told police that the driver, later identified as 42-year-old Darrell Ritchie of 386 Gist Ave., tried to back up and leave the scene several times. They also said he asked them not ot call the police.

When officers arrived, they found the truck in the front yard and Ritchie “staggering” in the roadway with bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, a strong smell of alcohol and blue powder around his nose. According to the citation, Ritchie admitted to snorting Xanax and taking Saboxin. They also found a marijuana cigarette in plain view inside the truck.

After failing several field sobriety tests, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (second offense), failure to maintain insurance, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to be in Clark District Court on Dec. 17 after posting a $250 bond.
