Deputies believe alcohol was a factor in a crash early Sunday morning that killed a Winchester man.
Benjamin L. Locke, 24, of 259 Prescott Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near 3030 McClure Road. According to the sheriff’s report, the accident happened around 4:27 a.m. when Locke was traveling west on McClure Road. Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said Locke appeared to have been driving while intoxicated at a high rate of speed and missed a curve.
The Scion xA Locke was driving went off the left side of the road, over an embankment and crashed through the fence. Some of the planks entered the car, Perdue said, and caused Locke’s injuries.
His passenger, Paul E. Charles of 323 Sandra Drive, was treated for minor injuries at Clark Regional Medical Center and released, Perdue said.
“I had the reconstructionist come out and photograph the scene,” Perdue said. “He thinks speed was a factor in it. He was going too fast and lost control.”
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
