The George Rogers Clark baseball team picked up it where it left off with an 18-2 rout of Paris in five innings Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals (2-7) led 4-2 going into the sixth inning, but broke the game open with a 13-run outburst in the sixth for the final margin. Clark banged out 14 hits against the Hounds and pitchers Logan McQuerry and Trevor Back combined on a three-hitter for Clark.
McQuerry threw the first five innings and allowed three hits and both runs scored by the hosts. McQuerry struck out three betters, while Back fanned one hitter in his only inning of work in the sixth frame.
Clark laced three extra base hits, with Pokey Harris and Brent Stoneking each connecting on a double, while Zach Roe had a triple.
McQuerry paced Clark’s offense with four singles and three RBIs. Taylor Howard followed with three hits and drove in two runs, while Steven Davis also added a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Harris, Stoneking, Wes Lawwill, Roe and Luke Sharrock each had one hit in the easy victory.
Softball
The Lady Cardinals saved their best for last with two runs in their final plate appearance, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 loss at Tates Creek Tuesday.
Clark was limited to three hits, but got solid production from Rebecca Strange, who had a pair of hits, including a double and a home run. Strange drove in both of Clark’s runs.
Peyton Skillern added a single for Clark.
The Lady Commodores scored three runs in the first two innings off Clark starter Jessica Neal, but two hits during the remainder of the contest.
Neal gave up seven hits, three runs, walked one batter and collected one strikeout.
