Coaches: Dodd Dixon, eighth season. Assistant coach Tee Harrington.
Overview: The boys cross country team has amassed more than a 95 percent won-loss record over the past two years. The team has advanced to the state meet during the past two years, ending a 30-year drought for the school. The team placed first at Beast in the East, Mason County Invitational, as well as other meets. The team repeated as conference champions for the fifth time in a row.
Starters lost: The team lost co-captains Clay Dixon and Alex White. White placed 10th individually at the state meet. White and Dixon are running for Morehead State University.
Top Returnees: Seniors Cody Cox and Brandon Bailey, juniors Grayson Brookshire, Ben Petrey, Josh Boldt, Brandon Burris and James Banks figure to pace a loaded squad. Joining the team this season will be junior transfer Thomas Bickham.
Key to season: The team has responded well to an increase in practice intensity and volume. “The team has placed in the Top 25 in the state and just concluded its best two boys cross country seasons in school history,” Dixon said. "However, we are not content with this. The team aspires to be one of the best in Kentucky.” Continued hard work and hunger to succeed are keys to the team’s success this season.
Top competition: Pulaski County, North Laurel, and Madison Central.
Goals: The team wants to finish in the top tier of all of its meets. The team goals include repeating as Beast in the East champions, Mason County Invitational champions and conference champions. The team also wants to improve on its finish in the state meet. “We are building a championship tradition for GRC Cross Country. Success is our goal,” Dixon said.
