Coach: Robyn Curry, fourth season.
Last year: The Lady Cardinals continued their dominance against district foes by capturing their third consecutive title. The Lady Cardinals then lost to Deming in the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament at Newport Central Catholic.
Starters lost: Three.
Top returnees: Carrie Irvin, Amy Kao, Kaylee Raymer, Maddie Hamlin and Sydney Wright. Top players: Raymer, Kao, Kyndal Curry, Irvin, Wright, Hamlin, Sandra Skinner, Darion Marzetti and Brianna King.
Outlook: Clark returns the nucleus of last year’s squad, with defense, serving and taking advantage of its height as the keys to a successful season. Curry likes her team’s “heart, desire to work and improve, height, strength and love for each other.” Curry cites Clark’s “lack of experience” and “young inexperienced players” as a glaring weakness going into the team’s season opener Thursday at Anderson County. Curry said the team’s goals are to repeat as district champs for a fourth time, win the 10th Region Tournament and advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history. “We have to work hard and get into shape, understand the game, be a strong academic student, good citizen and teammate and have respect and discipline (to be successful),” she said.
Top teams in 40th District: Montgomery County, Bourbon County.
Top teams in 10th¿Region: Bishop Brossart, Campbell County, Newport Central Catholic and Harrison County.
