Coach: Dodd Dixon, eighth season. Assistant coach Tee Harrington.
Last year: The Lady Cardinals advanced to the state meet for the fourth year in a row. The team has repeated as conference champions the past four years and have consistently been in the top 25 in the state. The team has won several invitationals over the past year including the Beast in the East (2011, 2010, 2009, 2008). No other cross country girls team at the school has amassed a four-year string of success.
Starters lost: Co-team captains Tiffany Toler and Lindy Darnell. Toler signed at Austin Peay State University.
Top returnees: Seniors Cora Kerber and Genna Petrey are expected to lead the Lady Cardinals with assistance from sophomore Lydia Gapp and Alyssa Gaunce.
Key to the season: Young runners filling the roles of graduated seniors is the key to this year according to Dixon. Several young runners from Clark Middle and Conkwright will have to assume roles of responsibility. “Our preseason practices have started to go well. The girls are learning what it well take to continue our string of victories into 2012.”
Top competition: Pulaski County, Southwestern and Madison Central.
Goals: Dixon said the team’s top goal is to return to the state meet for the fifth year in a row and finish the season in the Top 25. “We want to repeat as conference champions and he said.
