er team notched its second win in a row and avenged last year’s district tournament loss to Harrison County with a 1-0 triumph over the Thorobreds Tuesday night in Cynthiana.
The victory, the Cardinals’ third in the past five games, was the team’s third shutout of the season.
“It was a very good team effort,” Clark coach Ian Collins said. “We’ve just got to build on this and keep getting better.”
Clark’s Logan Blankenship scored the lone goal of the game at the 78-minute mark on an assist from teammate Andrew Walker. Wilson Martin added a pair of shots on goal for Clark in the narrow victory.
Conner Blankenship had six saves for the Cards.
In the junior varsity game, Mason Hatton had a hat trick with three goals on five attempts to lead the Cardinals to a 7-1 victory over the hosts.
Hatton scored his goals at 11:00, 20:30 and 46:00. Jake Thompson (23:30), Luis Villa (20:00), Kaleb Keanaaina (25:00) and Jose Villa (52:00) each had a goal, while Gerald Bankes contributed with a shot on goal.
Goal keeper Dustin Summers had one save.
“It was great, quality soccer throughout the whole game,” Clark JV¿coach Chase Davis said. “The whole team worked hard and put the ball in the back of the net time and time again.
“Great finishes by Mason Hatton, Jake Thompson, Luis Villa, Kaleb Keanaaina and Jose Villa.”
Next game: Thursday, 7:30 p.m., vs. Bourbon County at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.

Lady Cardinals sweep East Jessamine

The George Rogers Clark girls volleyball team improved its record to 13-7 on the season with a 2-0 sweep of visiting East Jessamine Tuesday night at Norton Gymnasium.
Clark took the first set 25-12 and concluded the sweep with a 25-23 victory in the second set to take the match.
The Lady Cards paid tribute to the team’s parents.
“We honored our parents for all their dedication and support they give us every day,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said. “It was a big crowd on hand and was great for all teams to get victories. Every girl got to play tonight at all levels, which always is a good thing.”
