Blake Cartwright came within four shots of winning individual honors during the Madison Central Invitational at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond Saturday.
The George Rogers Clark junior fired a 1-under 71 and finished in a five-way tie for second place in the one-day event.¿Cartwright carded a 35 on the front nine and had an even par 36 on the last nine holes.
Cartwright’s teammate Ross Todd had a 78 and tied for 34th on the final leaderboard. Todd had a 38 on the first nine holes, followed by a 40 on the back nine. Cartwright and Todd competed in the tournament as individuals.
St. Xavier won the team title with a 286, followed by West Jessamine (297), Christian Academy of Louisville (299), Madison Central (303) and Lexington Christian (306).
Lexington Catholic golfer Matthew Mahle claimed medalist honors with a 5-under par 67 and won by four strokes.

The George Rogers Clark girls soccer team concluded play in the iHigh Frenzy with a 6-0 loss to Tates Creek Saturday at Lafayette.
The Lady Cardinals lost three games in the tournament, which was won by the Lady Commodores, who defeated Dunbar 4-2 Saturday night in the finals.
“They were a really good team with a couple of great players,” Clark coach Jessica Laswell said. “Our goalies had some great saves, and we showed some moments of pretty soccer, but overall we were beaten by a better team.
“But, we've got things to work on and we'll get better from here.”
