The George Rogers Clark boys soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie in its home finale against Rowan County Thursday night at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals (6-7-2) honored seniors Andrew Haggard, Conner Blankenship, Andrew¿Walker, Parker Benson, Dalton Gallenstein, Mark Wolf, Jansen Browning and Irvin Juarez prior to the contest, with Haggard scoring the hosts lone goal at the 63-minute mark of the contest.
Haggard, Wilson Martin and Josh Embry each had two shots on goal against the Vikings.
Conner Blankenship had four saves for the hosts.
“The boys had a sloppy start and had a hard time controlling the ball,” Clark assistant coach Chase Davis said. “The second half gave us some moments to score and we finished one attempt.”
In the junior varsity finale, the Luis Villa and Zane Logan each had a goal in the Cards’ 2-0 shutout of the Vikings. Alec Carrington had two shots on goal, while Kaleb Keanaaina and Nathan Farrell added one each.
Clark goal keeper Dustin Summers collected a pair of saves for the hosts.
“The work rate was exceptional from the start,” Davis said. “The guys controlled the game and made some excellent finishes.”
The varsity squad opens the postseason at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday against Bourbon¿County in the 39th District Tournament at Stonerside Field in Paris. In the opener, top-seeded Montgomery County will take on Paris at 6 p.m.
The finals are slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Paris.

Lady Cards end regular season with loss
The George Rogers Clark volleyball team suffered a 2-0 loss to Woodford¿County Thursday night in its regular-season finale.
Clark lost the first set 25-18, followed by a 25-10 loss in the second one. The Lady¿Cardinals will take an 18-10 record into the postseason, which begins next week.
The Lady Cards, the top seed in the 40th District, received a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the Montgomery County-Bourbon County contest at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Sterling.
