Lady Cards Soccer
The George Rogers Clark girls soccer team got its first win of the season with a 9-0 shutout of Maysville Saint Patrick Saturday night.
Catie Curren and teammate Courtney White had two goals each to lead the Lady Cardinals’ offensive effort. Curren also added a pair of assists in the contest.
Hayley Thornberry started Clark’s scoring with an unassisted goal at 3:01, followed by goals by Curren and Cora Kerber. Chelsea Scobee rounded out Clark’s scoring in the opening half on an assist from Ramsey Hatchett at the 27:15 mark. Curren’s first score occurred at the 9:40 mark, while Kerber connected on her lone goal of the game with 12:59 showing on the clock.
Taylor Stephens began Clark’s second-half scoring with a goal at 49:52 on an assist from Curren, followed by White’s unassisted score at 53:48. White connected again nearly five minutes later with 58:42 on the clock. Brittany McClure had a goal at 73:32, while Curren rounded out Clark’s scoring with a goal on an assist from Thornberry at 75:22.
“I was happy that the goals were spread out,” Clark coach Jessica Laswell said. “Everyone on the team contributed. We passed the ball well most of the time and moved the ball well. I would liked to have seen some better touches and ball control at times and we still were a bit careless at times.
“But, overall, we did well. I was pleased and it was a good game.”
Cathryn Banker was Clark’s score keeper in the opening half, while Chassidy Keaton collected the lone save in the second half.

Girls golf
The George Rogers Clark girls golf team competed in the Madison¿County Invitational Saturday at Battlefield Golf Course in Richmond.
The Lady Cardinals fired a 396 and were led by Caroline Browning and Haleigh Snapp with a 96. Taylor Ritchie followed with a 99, while Hannah Ritchie shot a 102 and Taylor Humphrey carded a 112. Katie Franklin competed as an individual and shot a 106.
The Lady¿Cardinals defeated Powell County 225-253 in a match played last Tuesday.
Franklin and Jordan Jacobsen paced Clark with a 50 each, followed by Anna Omohundro and Ashley Richmond each with a 62. Casey Pasley and Allison Ratliff rounded out Clark’s scoring with a 63.
In a match played on Aug. 18, Clark shot a 397 and finished 10th out of 21 teams in the Montgomery County Tournament at the Mount Sterling Country Club.

On Aug, 16 at Battlefield Golf Course, Clark defeated Madison Southern 191-194.
