The George Rogers Clark girls volleyball team wrapped up the top seed for the 40th District Tournament with a 3-1 win over Montgomery County Tuesday night in Mount Sterling.
Clark won the first set 25-20, lost the second one 25-21 and captured the last two games 25-20 and 25-21.
“It was a very hostile, loud environment, which really helps my girls keep pumped up and maintain their aggressive play and energy,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said. “It was a big game for us playing (our) rival Montgomery County, but we played well and got it done.”
Curry added that her team hasn’t lost to the Lady Indians in the past four years.
“It was great to keep that (winning streak) going,” she said.
Curry said senior Carrie Irvin had a “super night” setting the ball, while sophomore Kaytlynn Williams “came in and gave us some good plays.”
Clark upped its record to 15-7 and 4-0 in the district, while the Lady Indians slipped to 17-7 and 3-2.

Cards suffer 1-0 loss to Somerset

The George Rogers Clark boys soccer team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Somerset Tuesday night at the Cardinal Soccer Complex.
Josh Embry had two of Clark’s seven shots on goal, while Andrew Walker, Christian Colvard, Logan Blankenship, Nick Sladic and Ryan McKinney each had one scoring attempt in the contest.
Clark goal keeper Conner Blankenship served as goal keeper for the Cards.
Clark fell to 5-7-1 on the season, while the Briar Jumpers improved to 6-7-1.
The Larry Raney junior varsity tournament resumes tonight, with Madison Central and Paris meeting at 6:15 p.m., followed by Clark White and Clark Red in the second game at approximately 8 p.m.

Boys golf
Ninth Region tournament postponed

The boys 9th Region Golf Tournament was postponed Tuesday because of inclement weather in the region.
The tournament was scheduled to resume this morning at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington.
