The George Rogers Clark volleyball team notched its first victory of the season Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Madison¿Southern.
Clark (1-1) won the first game 25-23, followed by a 25-16 victory in the second game and a 25-14 win to complete the sweep.
“We started off kind of low energy, which hurt us in the first set, but we pulled it out,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said.
Sandra Skinner had 13 kills and Carrie Irvin had 32 assists. Skinner added a pair of blocks.
Maddie Hamlin had nine kills, Kyndal Curry added five and Sydney Wright had two.
Amy Kao had 12 serve-receive passes and Veronica Worsham had six passes. Kao had a team-high 24 digs, while Kaylee Raymer, Curry and Seri Crawford combined for 11 passes.
Worsham added 10 digs, while Curry collected five aces.
Curry said she’s pleased with her team’s progress two games into the season.
“We are working very hard each day on getting our girls mentally and physically ready for every game,” she said. “I am pleased with our progress considering it is early in the season and only our second game.”
Golf
The George Rogers Clark girls golf team finished second in a tri-match against Scott County and Estill County Tuesday at the Winchester Country Club.
Clark shot a 199, while Scott County had a 173. Estill County finished with a 226.
Taylor Ritchie had a 48 to pace Clark, followed by Haleigh Snapp and Jordan Jacobsen each with a 50. Caroline Browning had a 51.
Other scores were as follows:¿Hannah Ritchie 52, Taylor Humphrey 66, Katie Franklin 59, Allison Ratliff 64, Anna Omohundro 65, Ashley Richmond 68 and Casey Pasley with a 64.
On Monday, Clark had a 191 and finished behnd Lafayette in a tri-match. The Lady¿Generals had a 187 and Harrison County shot a 242.
Snapp paced the Lady Cards with a 44, followed by Taylor Ritchie with a 48. Browning carded a 49 and Hannah Ritchie fired a 50.
Other scorers were as follows: Franklin 56, Omohundro 58, Pasley 62, Humphrey 55, Ratliff 56, Jacobsen 53 and Richmond with a 59.
