Prep Roundup: Volleyball Cards drop season opener
The George Rogers Clark volleyball team opened its season Thursday with a 3-0 loss at Anderson¿County.
The Lady Cardinals lost the first two games 27-25 and suffered a 25-23 setback in the final set.
“I’m very proud, and it was a great night of volleyball,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said. “They are a great team and we never quit. It was great to see us come out early in the season and our first day of school and play that hard and determined. Each game came down to the wire and could of gone either way. It really helps us see what we must improve on and how much more stamina we need for the new three out of five game matches. It was great to see my young inexperienced players step it up tonight and focus and play hard as a team.”
Sandra Skinner paced the team with seven kills, followed by Kyndal Cury with six. Maddie Hamlin and Sydney Wright added four kills each.
Curry and Wright recorded three aces each, followed by Carrie Irvin with two and Hamlin and Lucy Steele with one each. Skinner, also a standout on the girls basketball team, had a team-high five blocks, followed by Darion Marzetti and Hamlin with one each.
