Prep Roundup: Volleyball team honors seniors, sweeps Fleming County
The George Rogers Clark girls volleyball team honored its seniors and swept Fleming County in its home finale Wednesday night at Norton Gymnasium.
The Lady Cardinals won 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17.
“Our senior night was a big success,” Clark coach Robyn Curry said. “We have worked hard this season to get to this point and it was great that everyone contributed to the win.”
Clark paid tribute to seniors Cori Miller, Kaylee Raymer, Darion Marzetti, Amy Kao, Joanna Guerrant and Sydney Wright prior to the contest. Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner introduced each senior member of the team prior to the contest.
“It is always so sad to honor your seniors,” Curry said. “I have a very close relationship with each and every one of these girls and I hate to say goodbye. I will really miss them and told each and everyone of them to me proud and I know that they will. This season has been special I have all good girls who genuinely love and enjoy each other. Usually when you have that many girls on a team, there is some jealousy and fighting that goes on, but  I am proud to say that just didn't go on this year. When we say one team, one family, one mission, we mean it. I am very proud of these girls and have enjoyed coaching them and will miss them next year.”
Curry also was pleased with the performance of underclassmen Lucy Steele and Kyndal Curry.
“(They) stepped up and did a great job setting the ball tonight for us,” the Clark coach said. “I have all the confidence in these girls and I was pleased how they handled this task tonight.”
