George Rogers Clark senior Brittany Gay went up for a block during the Lady Cardinals’ 2-1 loss to Madison Central Tuesday night at Norton Gymnasium. Madison¿Central won the first game 25-20, while the Lady Cards rallied and took the second game, 26-24. The Lady Indians then captured the contest with a 25-21 victory in the final set. The Lady¿Cardinals will try to pick up their first victory of the season Thursday night at West Jessamine.

Boys soccer

The George Rogers Clark boys soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 loss to Scott County Tuesday night in Georgetown.
The Cardinals held Scott County scoreless in the first half, but the hosts scored the first goal at the 56th minute and added the decisive score at the 67-minute mark of the contest.
Clark goal keeper Conner Blankenship scooped up eight saves for Clark.
“Conner had a great game in goal,” Clark coach Patrick Fitzgerald said.

“That kept us in the game, without question.”
Fitzgerald was pleased with his team’s performance in the first game of the season for both teams. Fitzgerald said it’s just a matter of putting everything together.
“(It wasn’t) a terrible start,” he said. “We still need to work on a few things. We had moments of brilliance, but we need to just put 80 minutes together.”
In the junior varsity game, the Cards suffered a 1-0 loss to Scott County.
Jarrod Maggard had four saves for Clark.
“We just didn’t finish our chances, and that was the difference,” Clark junior varsity coach Daniel Cowan said.
