Prep soccer: Danville slides by Clark

The George Rogers Clark boys soccer team dropped its fourth loss in the past five games with a 1-0 setback to Danville Thursday night.
Josh Embry had one shot on goal for Clark, while the Admirals scored the only goal of the contest with a score at the 28-minute mark in the first half.
Clark coach Ian Collins was pleased with his team’s ability to recover from a slow start.
“We played well in the second half,” he said. “We just have to keep working and fighting.”
Clark goal keeper Chandler Gaunce had one save before leaving the game because of an injury. Conner Blankenship replaced Gaunce and collected four saves.
The junior varsity team opened the doubleheader with a 5-0 win over the Admirals.
Tom Spencer paced the Cards with a pair of goals, while Tyler Crosley, Austin Golden and Ryan Pohl each had a score for the Cards. Goal keeper Dustin Summers had a pair of saves.
Kaleb Keanaaina, Mason Hatton, Zack Mathias, Braden Powell, Jake Thompson and Jose Villa each had at least one shot on goal.
Alec Carrington paced Clark with a pair of assists, including a corner kicker header on a goal scored by Crosley. Villa also added an assist.
“It was a great team effort,” Collins said.
