Conkwright drops pair to Powell County
The Conkwright middle school boys basketball team dropped two of three games to Powell County last week.
The sixth-grade Cougars recorded a 40-18 win, while the seventh-grade lost 58-48 and the eighth-grade squad suffered a 49-33 setback.

Resolution 5K run Saturday
The annual New Year’s Resolution 5K run and walk is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Industrial Park. The pre-registration cost is $25 per runner and proceeds will benefit the George Rogers Clark track and field team. Registration cost on race day is $30. Runners can pre-register at www.winresolutionrun.com.

Harris named to all-state team
George Rogers Clark senior Pokey Harris was named third-team all-state by the Louisville Courier-Journal last weekend.
Harris also was named honorable mention all-state by the Associated Press.

Top seven stay put in Top 25 poll
With Syracuse No. 1 for a third straight week, the top seven teams remain the same in The Associated Press’ Top 25.
The Orange received 54 first-place votes from the 65-member national media poll on Monday. Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Baylor and Duke held their places from last week.
Ohio State received five No. 1 votes, Kentucky had four and Louisville two.
Missouri, Connecticut and Florida round out the top 10. Harvard moved back into the rankings at No. 24.
UK¿women climb up two notches
The Kentucky women’s basketball team has moved up two spots to No. 6 in The Associated Press poll released Monday.
The Cats are 11-1 after defeating Samford 90-61 in their only game last week.
Kentucky’s next game is at Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday.
Baylor remains the nation’s top-ranked team. UConn is second, followed by Notre Dame, Stanford and Maryland.
