The Winchester Little League 11-and-12-year-old All-Stars captured their first victory of the Little League State Softball Tournament with a 14-5 victory over Phelps Tuesday night at Lykins Park.
Winchester, now 1-2 in the tournament, advances to the semifinals and will take on North Laurel at 5:30 tonight at Lykins Park.
North Laurel defeated Winchester 13-3 in the opening round of the tournament last weekend.
In the second semifinal at 7:30, Russell-Flatwoods plays Valley Sports.
In the win over Phelps, Haley Goldhahn connected on three singles, while Alyssa Jones added two singles and Courtney Miles slapped a single and a double to pace Winchester’s offensive production.
Emily Golden added a double, while Taylor Curtis, Elena Guerra and Ashley Smyth had one hit apiece. Smyth’s lone hit was a triple.
Goldhahn, Miles and Sydney Elkins combined for five strikeouts for Winchester.
Hannah Layne had two singles and a double, while Kryslin Obermuller and Sam Hurley added two hits each to pace Phelps.
Layne went the distance for Phelps and collected six strikeouts.
In other games Tuesday, Russell-Flatwoods defeated Valley Sports 16-8 and North Laurel beat Washington County, 14-1.
In the 9-10 division, Marion County came away with a 4-1 victory over North Laurel and Stan¿Spence blanked North Oldham 1-0.
North Oldham will play Marion County in the finals at 6 tonight at Lykins Park.
