During the past three years, Georgia has proven it can beat Kentucky at home and on the road.
In the Bulldogs’ last contest against Kentucky, Georgia dealt the Wildcats a 77-70 setback on Jan. 8 in Athens. Two years ago, the Bulldogs handed Kentucky a 90-85 loss in Lexington.
However, since its victory over Kentucky earlier this month, Georgia has lost three of the last five games, including a disappointing 104-91 loss in double overtime to Florida Tuesday.
Following the loss to the Gators, Bulldogs coach Mark Fox said the setback was a “tough loss.”
“It was a great atmosphere and a great game, but we came up short,” he said. “We didn’t have one more response in us.”
Despite the loss, Kentucky coach John Calipari expects the same response Georgia gave his squad in the first meeting between the two teams.
“Georgia has already beaten us and they beat us good down there,” Calipari said earlier this week. “The game was close for a little while and they spread it out, we got back in it and they spread it out again. They played rougher than us, the played physical and they were good. We couldn’t drive the ball and get a clean look. We weren’t playing through bumps and they just manhandled us.”
Although his team already owns a win over Calipari’s troops, Fox knows Saturday’s contest will be a “challenge” and is confident his team can rebound from their last outing and put the loss to the Gators in perspective.
“There are worse things in life that are going to happen to them and they have no choice but to get back up, and they will,” he said. “I will make sure they do that. That’s one of the things that athletics teaches you - to get back up when you’re knocked down.”
