Winchester falls to North Laurel in state semifinals

The Winchester 11-and-12-year-old All-Stars concluded play in the Little League State Softball Tournament with a 17-5 loss to North Laurel Wednesday night at Lykins Park.
North Laurel advances to the finals and will take on Russell-Flatwoods at 6 tonight at Lykins Park.
Russell earned a ticket to the finals with a 21-10 victory over Louisville Valley Sports in the second game of a doubleheader.
Despite his team’s loss to North Laurel Wednesday night, Winchester coach Allan Curtis was pleased with his team’s performance in the event.
“We finished No. 4 in the entire state and were District 3 champions,” Curtis said. “That’s a very good accomplishment.”
Winchester went 1-3 in the tournament, losing to North Laurel twice.¿Winchester defeated Phelps Tuesday night and lost to Louisville Valley Sports on Sunday at Lykins Park.
In the 9-10 tournament championship game on Wednesday night, Marion County defeated North Oldham, 2-1.
Red River, based in Powell County, took two of three games from North Oldham to win the 10-11 division earlier this week at Lykins Park.
